TheRPA-T4monoclonalantibodyreactswiththehumanCD4.TheCD4antigenisa55kDacellsurfacetypeImembraneglycoproteinbelongingtotheimmunoglobulinsuperfamily.CD4actsasaco-receptorwhichincooperationwiththeTcellreceptor(TCR)interactswithclassIIMHCmoleculesdisplayedbyantigenpresentingcells(APC).CD4isexpressedbymostthymocytesandhelperTcells,asubsetofNK-Tcellsandweaklybydendriticcellsandmacrophages.CD4playsanimportantroleinthedevelopmentofTcellsandisrequiredformatureTcellstofunctionoptimally.TheRPA-T4antibodyisreportedtobindtotheD1domainofCD4anddoesnotblockthebindingoftheOKT-4antibody.Additionally,RPA-T4hasbeenshowntoblockthebindingofHIVgp120proteintoCD4andinhibitCD4Tcellactivationinvitro.
