TheAISB12monoclonalantibodyreactswithmouseCD20.CD20isaBcell-specific33-37kDatransmembraneproteinwhichisalsoknownasB-lymphocyteantigen,B1,andBp35.CD20playsrolesinintracellularcalciumregulationandBcellactivationandiscriticalforanoptimalBcellimmuneresponseagainstT-independentantigens.CD20isfirstexpressedaftertheinductionofCD19togetherwithIgMduringthepre-BtoimmatureBcelltransitioninthebonemarrow.It’sexpressionthenincreasesduringmaturationwithalmostallmatureBcellsexpressingsomelevelofCD20.However,CD20isnotexpressedbyplasmablastsorplasmacells.CD20isexpressedbymostBcellneoplasms,andisusefulindiagnosingBcelllymphomasandleukemia.Manyanti-CD20monoclonalantibodiesarecurrentlybeingusedtosuccessfullytreatleukemia,lymphomas,andvariousautoimmunediseases.TheAISB12monoclonalantibodyhasbeenreportedintheliteraturetodepleteendogenousCD20+Bcellsinvivo.However,multiplereportsoflowBcelldepletionefficiencyhavealsobeenreported.
