TheIM7monoclonalantibodyreactswithhumanandmouseCD44alsoknownasHermes,HCAM,andPgp-1.CD44isan80-95kDaglycoproteinthatisexpressedonallleukocytes,endothelialcells,hepatocytes,andmesenchymalcells.Asanadhesionmolecule,CD44participatesinawidevarietyofcellularfunctionsincludinglymphocyteactivation,recirculationandhoming,andhematopoiesis.CD44isareceptorforhyaluronicacidandcanalsointeractwithotherligands,suchasosteopontin,collagens,andmatrixmetalloproteinases(MMPs).Additionally,CD44isinvolvedintumormetastasisandtargetingofCD44byantibodieshasbeenshowntoreducethemalignantactivitiesofvariousneoplasms.Interestingly,highlevelsoftheadhesionmoleculeCD44onleukemiccellsareessentialtogenerateleukemia.TheIM7antibodyhasbeenshowntoneutralizeCD44invivo
