The116-13.1monoclonalantibodyreactswithmouseCD8alsoknownasLyt-2.TheCD8antigenisatransmembraneglycoproteinthatactsasaco-receptorfortheTcellreceptor(TCR).LiketheTCRCD8bindstoclassIMHCmoleculesdisplayedbyantigenpresentingcells(APC).CD8isprimarilyexpressedonthesurfaceofcytotoxicTcellsbutcanalsobefoundonthymocytesnaturalkillercellsandsomedendriticcellsubsets.CD8mostcommonlyexistsasaheterodimercomposedofoneCD8αandoneCD8βchainhoweveritcanalsoexistasahomodimercomposedoftwoCD8αchains.BoththeCD8αandCD8βchainssharesignificanthomologytoimmunoglobulinvariablelightchains.ThemolecularweightofeachCD8chainisapproximately34kDa.The116-13.1antibodyexhibitsdepletingactivitywhenusedinvivo.
