TheOX-38monoclonalantibodyreactswiththeratCD4.TheCD4antigenisa55kDacellsurfacetypeImembraneglycoproteinbelongingtotheimmunoglobulinsuperfamily.CD4actsasaco-receptorwhichincooperationwiththeTcellreceptor(TCR)interactswithclassIIMHCmoleculesdisplayedbyantigenpresentingcells(APC).CD4isexpressedbythemajorityofthymocytes,mosthelperTcells,asubsetofNK-Tcellsandweaklybydendriticcellsandmacrophages.CD4playsanimportantroleinthedevelopmentofTcellsandisrequiredformatureTcellstofunctionoptimally.TheOX-38antibodyhasbeenreportedtodepleteCD4+Tcellsinvivo.
